GOLD COAST 600 RECAP
Practice & Qualifying
Friday’s Sessions contained a rocky start including issues with trial pads, brakes and a stuck throttle for Reindler that resulted in a knock into the Surfer’s Paradise Street Circuit wall.
Practice 3 finally showed some signs of improvement for the Team which Holdsworth believes is a great sign for the remaining two rounds and 2017.
"IT WASN’T THE IDEAL START IN PRACTICE, 1 & 2 WERE A WRITE OFF WITH A COUPLE OF PROBLEMS BUT IN PRACTICE 3 WE CAME 12TH SO FURTHER TUNED THE CAR IN QUALIFYING. WE IMPROVED ALL WEEKEND WHICH IS A CREDIT TO BUSHY AND STU WITH THE ENGINEERING SIDE, WE’VE SHOWN POTENTIAL AND HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FINALLY FINISH THE WEEKEND OFF SO I’M HOPING THIS IS FINALLY THE START OF GOOD THINGS FOR PRESTON HIRE RACING."
After Holdsworth set a fast lap in Qualifying to start 7th for Race 21, Reindler began and reached 4th before a minor mistake cost any Race Result.
Clashing with the wall midway through the Race, the Car had to be towed away under safety car resulting in a DNF result.
"COMING INTO THE WEEKEND EVERYONE WAS EXCITED, THE VIBE AND ATMOSPHERE ON THE GOLD COAST IS GREAT. RACE 1 WAS DEVASTATING, WE WERE IN A GREAT POSITION UNTIL THE CRASH."
Holdsworth put the Number 18 Car in 12th during Qualifying, narrowly missing the Top 10 Shootout.
Reindler completed the majority of laps before swapping with Holdsworth, who held their position until the end of the chaotic race & weekend.
"TO COME BACK IN RACE 2 TO FINISH 7TH, ANYTHING INSIDE THE TOP 10 IN THIS CHAMPIONSHIP IS A REALLY GREAT RESULT. IT WAS 7TH BUT IT FELT MORE THAN THAT AFTER EVERYTHING WE’VE BEEN THROUGH AND EXCITED TO FINISH ON A POSITIVE NOTE."
Team 18 farewells Reindler in a Driver capacity as the South East Queensland Event marks the final round of the Pirtek Enduro Cup, with Holdsworth paying homage to the talent of his Co-Driver.
"KARL IS FANTASTIC, IN COMPARISON TO THE OTHER CO-DRIVERS HE’S DONE AN AMAZING JOB THROUGHOUT THE ENDUROS AND HE SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF WHAT HE’S DONE."
Schwerkolt is excited for the remainder of the 2016 season and believes their Race 23 result is the end of their horror run.
"IT FEELS LIKE A WIN, IT’S GREAT FOR THE TEAM AND THE VIBE IS GREAT BECAUSE IT’S A WELL DESERVED 7TH PLACE. I FEEL LIKE WE ARE RIDING A LITTLE WAVE SO WE’VE JUST GOT TO KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING. NEW ZEALAND IS UP NEXT WITH NO PIT STOPS SO WE ARE IN CHARGE OF OUR OWN DESTINY THERE AND HOPEFULLY QUALIFY AND RACE WELL."
Round 13 of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, The ITM Auckland SuperSprint, will be held on November 4-6, with all races to be televised LIVE on Fox Sports.
