AUCKLAND SUPERSPRINT – SATURDAY RECAP
Preston Hire Racing’s Lee Holdsworth has run short of the Top 10 in the first two races of the Auckland SuperSprint, but is prepared to fight from the front tomorrow.
Qualifying provided one of the closest divides of the season so far, with Holdsworth finishing P16 which was only four tenths from P1 in the first session.
Struggling with car balance, Holdsworth finished P21 in the second session.
Race 24 – Position 15
The initial race was three laps in before a huge crash by Jason Bright blocked the entry to pit lane, and forced a red flag.
Restarting in order under the safety car, Holdsworth began in P17 and climbed two places to finish P15 at the races conclusion.
Holdsworth held off Lowndes for the final 10 laps and finished one place higher than where he originally started.
Race 25 – Position 19
A clean start to the second race of the day saw Holdsworth advance from his starting position of P21 into P20.
Holdsworth overtook another racer to finish in P19, but felt that the car was still lacking in race speed.
The Preston Hire Racing Team will work on the car tonight to prepare for tomorrow’s closing races.
Sunday will follow the same Race format, with two 10 minute qualifying sessions and two 100km Races.
“IN RACE 1 WE STILL DIDN’T HAVE THE IDEAL BALANCE. RACE 2 WAS PRETTY UNEVENTFUL AND IT’S A VERY HARD TRACK TO OVERTAKE. WE STILL NEED TO FIND SOME MORE SPEED SO WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF WORK TO DO ON THE CAR OVERNIGHT.”
